"Insanely overwhelming. Really, really strange."
That's how "Harry Potter" star Freddie Stroma described what he was feeling as he walked the red carpet during the New York premiere of "Half-Blood Prince" in the summer of 2009. Almost two years later, not much has changed for the self-deprecating Brit, who stopped to chat with MTV News at the hectic premiere for the "Deathly Hallows, Part 1" DVD and said, above the roar of the fans, "I can't get used to this. It's just bizarre."
To be fair, Stroma hasn't had as much practice as some of his co-stars, as he only joined the franchise (as the young, cocksure wizard Cormac McLaggen) for the sixth film. Yet once he signed on, the cast welcomed him into the fold.
"When I first met Dan [Radcliffe], I came in and I was just doing a costume check," Stroma said. "He introduced himself to me and said, 'Hi, Freddie, how's it going?' And then two weeks later, he came up to me again and remembered my name. He meets hundreds of people every day, so that's amazing. You feel like you're coming into a family."
And like any good family, the cast is there to support one another in non-"Potter" matters. While he was in New York, Stroma caught a production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," the Broadway musical in which Radcliffe currently stars.
"Really good!" he said of the show. "Dan can dance, sing and act — who knew? I didn't know. I was just amazed. And it was funny. It's a funny show. Choreography is amazing as well."
